Rough translation of this SPYAIR interview! Hopefully it’s a bit better than the last one I did, as I am going to be less literal than last time. I only translated the band talking. The beginning you should already know already (SPYAIR is a four-person rock band from Nagoya. Just two years after their debut they played a sold-out concert at Nippon Budokan. Their third album “Million” reached 2nd place on the Oricon sales chart. They have just released their new single Imagination.)
UZ: (talking about Imagination) The feeling of being young and sweaty during club activities is what we wanted to make. Well, as you can see from our looks…
Kenta: As you can see.
UZ: As you can see. We are losing much of our youth.
(MC: blah blah, the band “formed” while the members were classmates in middle school. So, do you have any memories of middle school?)
Ike: (during middle school) Because I didn’t have any experience joining a club, in that time, because I only considered basketball, I went (to the basketball club) There was a vigorous guy who joined before me. The kind of guy who seemed like he was always saying “Hey! Hey! Pass to me!” That guy was our drummer, Kenta. After that, I spent three years without getting to know Kenta.
Kenta: Three years?
Uz: He still hasn’t gotten to know you now!
Momiken: Kenta also came to the swimming club. In the club he would always say, “I do basketball club and swimming club and I’m starting to worry…what about you? Swimming club? Swimming club?” (I thought to myself,) “Woah, if I have to do swimming club with this guy I will quit.” But it was okay. (because) he went to basketball.
Kenta: (I’m sorry) I was such a big trouble for you.
